A Picture is Worth a Thousand Clicks

We know that our clients are constantly sharing information on social media and hoping for attention (maybe because we told you to!) That attention—found in clicks, likes, shares, or just EYES—is getting even more difficult to attract as everyone’s inboxes and feeds grow ever more cluttered. To stand out in this mass of information, you have to find a quick way to get noticed.

One of the easiest ways to stand out online is to include images in all of your social media messages, on your website and on your blog. In a study on Fast Company, social media experts found that tweets with images received 150% more re-tweets than those without images. Another study shows that Facebook posts that include images earn 53% more likes, 104% more comments, and 84% more clicks than posts with only text. Photo-sharing also is powering the two of the fastest growing social media sites, Pinterest and Instagram. In short, photos and images need to be a central part of any business’s social media strategy.

So what kind of images should you post? Of course, take high-quality photos of your products, but also include photos of your staff and your community, as people often like to see the softer side of a company. If you have a lot of data or research that you want to share, consider creating an infographic to make the numbers more interesting and easier to understand.

Finally, make sure that you have full permission to use any and every image that you include on your site. You don’t want to be caught sharing information you don’t own—plus you want to make sure all clicks and shares refer back to your brand only.

I’ll look for your great selfie soon…
